Yes, for my children, I will chaperon field trips…gleefully, of course 😉 |
The other night I got to meet up with 3 friends for dinner. One has young kids, one is in the process of adopting and one is not yet copping up to any immediate plans. We were hashing out our fabulous lives and someone made reference to how I must really love being with my kids all the time. Whoa! Hmmm…do I?! I’m really lucky, I know, and obviously I love my kids. And (most days, except when going through horrendous potty-training), I enjoy spending time with them, but don’t get me wrong–when my kids are in school, I’m not going to be hosting playdates just for the fun of it. I won’t be pinching your baby’s cheeks if I run into you in the mall, and kid birthday parties will always make me feel…tired. As they get older, I’m seriously looking forward to more date nights with my husband–sans kids. The truth is, I’m just “not a kid person”. I’m a “MY kid person”, but that’s as far as it goes, people…sorry–if I like you, I’ll still love on your kids, I just won’t be randomly breaking into an exuberant version of the Mickey Mouse Hot Dog Dance b/c I hold a deep-rooted passion for kids’ cartoons.
