I typed “Easter Inspiration” into Google and a bajillion and one images of gorgeous spring-themed table displays filled my screen. Beautiful stuff to look at, but not what I was shooting for. But why am I not surprised? I was thinking more of the “Jesus rose from the grave” variety, but I get that’s not the way the world rolls right now and I know this. I love on the Easter Bunny just as much as the next guy, but here’s the deal: Jesus is the source of Easter, plain and simple, across any background or heritage. That’s pretty great, b/c in a world that can be so very bleak and painful sometimes, there’s no other option for me than to take refuge in my Savior.
He died a painful death for us, to save us, to love us and then by miracle alone, on Easter morning HE ROSE FROM THE GRAVE. It can take a lot to get that, I know, b/c there have been so many times in my life that this has felt unreal to me. But when I am able to get it, I have hope–incredible, unfailing hope–and above all, peace.
So bring on the egg hunts and adorably sweet little girls’ dresses, but let me not forget the original source of our joy and hope on this earth.
